Commander-in-Chief of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and Co
Chairman of the Friends of Civil War Alcatraz, celebrated Lincoln’s
birthday by laying a wreath on behalf of the Grand Army of the Republic
and the Federal Soldiers and Sailors of the Civil War at the Lincoln
Memorial in Washington D.C. Former Alcatraz Supervising Ranger
Ricardo Perez was the Commander of the Honor Guard at the Lincoln
Memorial.
The National Park
Service, Lincoln’s Birthday Committee, MOLLUS and the Sons of Union
Veterans put on this event annually. President Obama’s representative
laid a wreath, members of the Diplomatic Corps, several Congressional
delegations, and other heraldry groups placed wreaths in honor of the 16th
President.
The event is held on
President Lincoln’s birthday each year. A military honor guard
presented the colors, followed by the U.S. Army band, and speeches by
the Major of Washington D.C., National Park Service and the
Commander-in-Chief of MOLLUS, Keith Harrison.
