National Park Service Ranger Maureen Rogers and San Mateo resident Mike Musante take part in “Civil War Living History Days” at Fort Point National Historic Site in San Francisco Jan.31.

The event had the support of Friends of Civil War Alcatraz, which assists the National Park Service with educating the general public concerning the Civil War Experience on Alcatraz Island and in Northern California.

FOCWA may be reached at www.friendsofcivilwaralcatraz.org. Those interested in learning more about Civil War history are also welcome at the Peninsula Civil War Roundtable that meets on the third Tuesday of the month at Poplar Creek Grill, 1700 Coyote Point Drive, San Mateo. A social half hour cash bar starts the program at 11:30 a.m. Lunch ($21.00) is served at noon.  The featured program speaker begins after lunch. 2010 Dates:

From Friends of Civil War Alcatraz:
Jan 30-31, 2010 – Fort Point National Historic Site presents "Civil War Living History Days" in San Francisco. 

Come see Civil War soldiers and experience history first hand!  Demonstrations include musicians, infantry and artillery drill, medicine in the 1800s, Victorian dancing, and the daily life of women and children of the era.  Fort Point is a National Historic site located in the Presidio under the southern anchorage of the Golden Gate Bridge.  Additional parking is available at the Crissy Field lot near the Warming Hut and on the hill overlooking the Fort.  For more information, contact the Fort Point Rangers at (415) 556-1693, www.20thmaine.net, or mikemusante@hotmail.com.  FREE admission.  Hours are Sat 1/30 from 10-5 and Sun 1/31 from 10-2.

Friends of Civil War Alcatraz would like to take this opportunity to announce the calendar dates for Civil War Living History Days on Alcatraz Island for 2009.

The dates are:
Saturday, April 4, 2009
Saturday, October 31, 2009

Living history impressions must be specific to, or tied to Alcatraz at the time of the War Between the States.

Friends of Civil War Alcatraz is a non-profit organization that supports the National Park Service with educating the general public concerning the Civil War Experience on Alcatraz Island and in Northern California.
